Caber TossBackground

The Association was formally constituted in February 2007 to enable and assist the development of the Highland Games to take place.

The Association is made up of local volunteers who hope to help the Association gain charitable status in the near future as well as forming a Company Limited by Guarantee.

We want to develop this event for the benefit of the whole Community and to help raise community spirits. We also hope to promote the town of Cumnock to the wider communities in Scotland through the Annual Highland Games Event.

Description of Highland Games

Highland Games are festivals held throughout the year in Scotland and other Countries as a way of celebrating Scottish and Celtic Culture and Heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands. Certain aspects of the games are so well known as they have become emblematic of Scotland, such as the bagpipes, the kilt and the heavy events, especially the caber toss. While centred on competitions in piping, drumming, dancing and Scottish heavy athletics, the games also include entertainment and exhibits related to other aspects of Scottish and Gaelic culture.
